This week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe was incredibly simple. And I was actually thankful for that. My mother in law is currently here for a visit and being a true Asian at heart (and stomach!), she has a hard time eating anything that doesn’t have rice in it. Which means that for the past few days there has been a lot of stir-frying around here. And I mean A LOT.
I hated clafoutis. And for a good reason. The first time I had a clafoutis was during a picnic on Île St-Louis. The scene was always picture perfect, the weather gorgeous, the cheeses marvelous and the wine free-flowing. But somehow, we always failed on the dessert department. No one really cared much for dessert but someone would always manage to bring a supermarket pie/cake. Horrid. Of course.
I know, I sometimes have a hard time following a recipe, but I have an even harder time following this week’s FFwD assignment. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE duck breast. And I know I would love duck breast WITH fresh peaches even better. I even bought the fresh peaches to prove it. But duck breasts were just a hard find here in Singapore. I could find whole ducks at my local supermarket but I didn’t feel like spending money on a whole duck, let alone butchering it all on my own (head and all). And I didn’t want to commit to eating and cooking duck for the rest of the week either. So I made something else. And was glad I did.
